Lessons from L.A.: A Rush Hour Drive with a City Planner

Streetfilms Nicholas Whitaker took a back seat, rush hour ride with City Planner Deborah Murphy through the streets of Los Angeles. Murphy pointed out some of the difficulties one encounters in L.A. as a pedestrian advocate, commuter, and champion for change.

Murphy: "...people say, Yeah I care about the sidewalks and all of that kind of stuff, but they're not down at City Hall beating on the door and doing all the campaigning you would hope there to be."

    Dear NYCSR- I love you guys- but as a planner living in LA, there are more interesting things being done to reduce the car culture here...the video panned in on one- The Bicycle Kitchen.

    I also hate to point out that 35K miles a year in 5 years is 20 miles a day- everyday of the year. :)

    I still love you guys- keep up the good work.

    35K miles a year is far less than the US average of 13k/yr and I reckon far less than the LA County average.

    I really like the guitar work but I don't think it fit well with this video. When she discussed negatives it weighed them down even more.

    Just 2¢ - If it not too big deal to re-score the video you should.

    CAB, It's funny...when we swung by the Bike Kitchen, on a Saturday in the Middle of the Day, it was dead! I've been there a half dozen times since I've been out here and it's always packed, no matter what time of day or what day of the week...but when Nick and I went by it was inexplicably dead. Bummer.
