Tour de Bronx 2008

An extremely frosty morning couldn't keep over 4,000 riders from taking in the Bronx alfresco in the 14th Annual version of the original classic.  Despite being under the weather I was able to file a short report. As usual, it is one of the best things to look forward to yearly in NYC, especially the ride on the Sheridan Expressway. Thanks to Wiilliamson for the use of the dreamy music.

I have been riding a bike for a little over a month when my sister - in - law asked if I wanted to try the 25 mile Tour de Bronx. Our hats go off to the organizers and many volunteers required to stage this very successful biking excursion. We had a fantastic time talking and riding with so many different people. The scenery was beautiful and the weather could not have been any better. Loved the entire experience and would definitely do it again next year.

It was an awesome ride :) Makes me wish I brought my SLR with me.

Both the weather and the people on the ride were great. However, the ride could have been better organized. Mandatory rest breaks should not exist. While the ride is fun and not a race, faster riders should not be forced to break. Additionally, the route was not well marked and therefore, hard to follow. More signage on the streets would have made things easier.

I can honestly say this is the first time in my life I have ever wanted to go for a bike ride in The Bronx! Looks like you all had a great time!

As usual, it was a great time, and I want to thank the organizers, volunteers, and sponsers. Nice video also

Over the last couple of years, it seems that the police escorts and traffic control has been cut down. This year it was hard for the riders to know if an intersection was going to be shut down. This created a few dangerous situations as riders did not always know if they had the right of way or not.
