Zozo wants you to Walk to School!

For those of you who do not yet know him - meet Zozo!  He's Livable Streets' big purple friend who loves anything that gets people out of cars and moving about the streets.  You might find him riding his ZoGo along the new PPW bike lane, sitting out in the pedestrian plaza in Union Square [...]

Copenhagen Cargo Bikes

When you first visit Copenhagen, the first thing you'll notice after being mesmerized by the sheer number of cyclists on the roads is the eclectic kinds of bikes, especially ones that carry groceries, baggage, furniture or other people & children.

Summer Streets 2010: Dumpster Pool Party and more!

Saturday was another spectacular debut for NYC's Summer Streets 2010.  As usual, lots of antics, fun and modes of recreating, but the big story was the new trio of "dumpster pools" installed in the shadow of Grand Central on 40th street. One of the most amazing aspects of Summer Streets is how many folks you [...]

Copenhagen’s Car-Free Streets & Slow-Speed Zones

In Copenhagen, you never have to travel very far to see a beautiful public space or car-free street packed with people soaking up the day.  In fact, since the early 1960s, 18 parking lots in the downtown area have been converted into public spaces for playing, meeting, and generally just doing things that human beings [...]

Cycling Copenhagen, Through North American Eyes

While Streetfilms was in Copenhagen for the Velo-City 2010 conference, of course we wanted to showcase its biking greatness. But we were also looking to take a different perspective then all the myriad other videos out there. Since there were an abundance of advocates, planners, and city transportation officials attending from the U.S. and Canada, we thought it'd be awesome to get their reactions to the city's built environment and compare to bicycling conditions in their own cities.

NACTO’s “Cities for Cycling”

"Cities for Cycling" is a project of the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) to document, promote and implement the world’s best bicycle transportation practices in U.S. cities. In this Streetfilm you'll see how a typical visit can inspire, enlighten and energize city leaders & advocates.  During bike month, experts from the transportation departments of [...]

Velo-City 2010: Copenhagen Bike Parade

Last week, Copenhagen was the host for the Velo-City Global 2010 conference featuring over 1,000 attendees, advocates, and bike enthusiasts from all over the world.  It was awesome and awe-inspiring. The city that loves biking welcomed us with open arms. On the third night of the conference, Copenhagen did something it doesn't do often: holding a [...]

NYC Bike Month Montage (2010)

NYC Bike Month 2010 was awesome! In this funky montage wrap-up you'll get to see a dozen events with special guest stars Hal Ruzal, Randy "The Ethicist" Cohen and Eben "Bike Snob" Weiss, just to pick out a few. But none so special as an appearance by our very good purple friend - Zozo, who you'll get to see out scooting on his bike! And for heaven's sake, don't miss the "bike rockstar montage" near the end. We certainly have a lot of hip cyclists in NYC.

Boston Rising: Boston Bikes’ Nicole Freedman

Other than some fantastic greenways like the Minuteman Trail, riding along the Charles, and some ahead-of-its-time traffic calming & bike lanes in Cambridge, cyclists have had very little to crow about in Boston. In fact, it wasn't uncommon to hear murmurs that it was the worst cycling city in the U.S.

But that's all slowly changing. Boston's Mayor Thomas Menino hired Nicole Freedman - a former U.S. National Champion and 2000 Olympian - as his "bike czar" to head up Boston Bikes in late 2007.

People, Parklets, and Pavement to Parks (plus Mojo Bicycle Café)

In San Francisco, they are taking the PARK(ing) Day concept to a more permanent, logical level: the Pavement to Parks "Parklets" Program is conducting a trial to allow businesses to convert parking spaces into outdoor public spaces and cafes. The first was installed in March outside the Mojo Bicycle Café on Divisdero Street where two parking spaces were reallocated to people-space; now cafe tables & chairs, benches, bike parking, and plants sit over a raised platform over the asphalt.
