Bikes, drilling, energy, and politics-Vote Obama and Democratic
Yes, there is a big difference between republicans and democrats, Barack Obama and John McCain, when it comes to the use of our energy resources.
We must change our dependency on petroleum now on a personal level, locally and nationally. Voting for Barack Obama and the Democratic Party is a move in the right direction. I strongly encourage you to register and vote in the upcoming election.

Le Mobilien is Paris' version of what we know as a bus rapid transit system or a surface mass transport network. Paris has been doing bus rapid transit for decades, and after years of on-street operation and continuous fine-tuning they have now developed a system which they call the Mobilien - French for MOBI-lity plus LIEN which means link. Linking mobility. Unlike the BRTs that most US cities are looking at, the Mobilien adapts to different city contexts (i.e. street width and specific neighborhood dynamics). Mobilien doesn't aim at producing top speeds but making steady progress through the traffic stream. It launched in Paris after three years of planning in 2004 with the goal of cutting down on car traffic. To make the project possible, Paris' officials eliminated much on-street parking to create dedicated bus lanes that are shared with bicycles, taxis and emergency vehicles. Eric Britton from the new Mobility Agenda took me on a tour of Mobilien.
Jon Winston talks about how setting an example is important to bicycle advocacy.

Manhattan's awesome plan for a temporary 6.9 mile car-free route through the city, inspired by Bogota in Colombia's regular 'Ciclovia' events. Now the good camera wielding, bike path promoting, pedestrian loving folks at StreetFilms have created a public service announcement to help make sure that the events are as successful as they should be. So come on out New Yorkers -- the streets are yours. The events will be held on three consecutive Saturdays - August 9th, 16th, and 23rd, and they look set to be wonderful. More videos on safe streets and liveable communities after the fold.
7 miles of NYC streets, from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park, is closed to traffic and freed for use by everyday New Yorkers and visitors. We loved it!
This clip is in front of the south façade of Grand Central, which is usually only accessible to cars. Everyone was so thrilled to be able to take in the iconic view and see the Vanderbilt statue up close for the first time!

This is a stretch through Astor Place and south down Lafayette St. Listen for Kate Mikuliak from Councilmember Rosie Mendez's office saying hi to me as she rode past in the first 0:15! Everyone was out in the streets!

IMPROVISATION BY PIOTR MIROWSKI
ladies and gentlemen,
i would like to devise
a new way of being green
while keeping the productivity of a nation.
it consists in putting bumper stickers on cars
that says that you vote green
and that you are green.
it's an important step that we make
towards actually being green.
what is very important is
to be verbal,
to communicate
the idea of being green.
so, for instance
we can ask every single company
that pretends to be socially responsible
such as Chevrolet-Texaco
that is socially responsible
and subsidizes the
Metropolitan Opera.
to just put a huge label
THIS IS GREEN.
this is actually what British Petroleum is already doing
they have a huge campaign of advertising
explaining how they do care for the environment.
they change the name
Beyond Petroleum.
branding
this is the essence of being ecological today
it is just a matter of image
after all.

PORTLAND, OR - There have been a lot of bike box videos uploaded to The internets latley. But how are bike boxes being recieved by your average Joes?
Well, I got my hands on some footage a couple jokers shot right down on Hawthorne Blvd. by the liquor store. I think I know who the biker chick is but I won't name names.
Anyway, this once again proves that Portland is much more fun because of bicyclists.
My advice to the bike box curious: get a bike and get busy in the bike box.
