GREAT VIDEO - enjoyed music accompaniment too.
Question: is Midtown tunnel still down?
What's missing - really obviously, in the LIRR - is it down or operating?
NY transplant to CA

Agreed with Karen. Bicycling is pretty great for people to feel happier. Along with a strong safety net, I think great bicycling culture is what makes the Danes and the Dutch super happy in the annual happiness surveys. Every day I ride my bike to work I usually feel the happiness boost. Each day I choose not to ride in I feel grumpy.

New York cycling seems very mellow too. They're not in a sporty rush to get anywhere. Thanks for sharing.

It looks like the bicyclists of New York City are at a significant advantage compared to their fellow residents.

1) They can get places quickly, directly, and for free, all with little effort.
2) They have little uncertainty how long it will take them to get somewhere.
3) They are not wasting their time waiting in line for gasoline.
4) They are not subjecting themselves to violence as they wait in line for gasoline.
5) They are freeing up gasoline for use by transit, public safety and emergency vehicles.
6) They are freeing up space on the limited public transit that exists so that there's room for those not able to walk or bike.
7) They are boosting their immune systems so they are less likely to get sick.
8) They are getting exercise so are less likely to incur debilitating illness later in life.
9) If they ride through parks, they are getting some connection with nature and so are happier and more cheerful during a very stressful period of time.
10) They are releasing endorphins through exercise so they are happier and more cheerful during a very stressful period of time.

Pedestrians also incur benefits 1 - 10, but bicyclists have six times the range. Perhaps bicycles should start being included in everyone's emergency preparedness kit?
