Tour De Brooklyn 2009
Transportation Alternatives' 5th Annual Tour de Brooklyn was held yesterday. The 23-mile ride started and finished in Coney Island. Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz was there to see the ride off. As he spoke, Transportation Alternatives Executive Director, Paul Steely White pedaled to power the microphone. Check out this years video to see footage of this and the different neighborhoods (including Greenwood Cemetery) along the route.
Wonderful day, wonderful ride, and Elizabeth really captured the essence of the Tour De Brooklyn.
That might be the best Tour de Brooklyn video ever!
My favorite line, "We'll make it."
Seriously, NO Santa????
great job, elizabeth! now i'm inspired to jump on my bike & ride to work
My favorite thing from the ride were hearing the riders talk about how much of Brooklyn they saw & having residents in some neighborhoods cheer and wave us on from their windows and porches.
The NYPD also were a tremendous help in keeping the ride safe, many thanks to them.
Also, I love the action shot of me pumping air, lots of riders got their tires pumped up for a worry free ride.
Thanks for the great film! Loved the ride, very proud of my 8 year old, Mirad, for finishing on his own power... thanks to all the marshals and the NYPD for all their help and encouragement!
A 23 mile Critical Mass? That's gnarly. I want to come to the next one. Seems like a great way to explore parts of NY I've never been too.
I think the start time should be 7am to avoid auto traffic
I had a great time what a blast!
Alternative Transportation and company organized a fantastic tour. Participating in their bike tours is definitely going to be a proud summer tradition for me and my fiance.
And I agree with Bruce -- their should be an earlier start time. (Not necessarily 7 am however, way too early!)
My odometer said 19 miles, not 21. Too, too crowded to even see the scenery. I did see many accidents (among bikers, between bikers & cars, & bikers & pedestrians). We should have been more spread out, given turn sheets, & allowed to progress at our own pace.
I had a blast! Can't wait to do it again next year! Great video Elizabeth!
This was my first time riding after promising myself I'd try it for 3 years now. I'm 52 years young and unfortunately I didn't finish it but... I'm glad I attempted it. I'm gonna be ready and I'm gonna complete it next year. I had fun anyway!!! GREAT RIDE!!
sup sup ^^
This was such a wonderful experience for me. I was so charged to see and be part of this biking event in my beloved Brooklyn!I have been wanting to participate in the Tour De Brooklyn for 3 years after having seen a video of one of the earlier tours on TV while visiting with my parents in Brooklyn. I came down from Boston to participate, and at the age of 62 still feel the magic and wonder that is Brooklyn! Bless you all!
It was great! My dog Bijou & I had a blast! This was the 3rd time... It gets better every year! Thanks for everything... Let's do it again next year!!! I told you we'll make it!
