GREAT IDEA. It's about time. Europe has had places to park bikes and dedicated bike lanes for decades - and it works. Many million Europeans use their bikes daily - not only the young people. You will see people in their 70s and even older using their bikes daily. We have a long way to go. But this is definitely a great beginning.

Bravo NYC!!
Unfortunately you still dropped the ball a bit.
Those ribbon style racks you installed are considered substandard by the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals. Inverted "U" racks are the only way to go since they provide much greater security.

Also the ribbon rack looked like a model that is a bit flimsy and since it is only bolted in, is still subject to vandalism and theft. Since they pored new concrete anyway they should have set whatever style rack they decide on directly into the new slab of concrete.

Still! Way to GO!! BRAVO!!
