Streetfilms Spur Community Conversation

Streetfilms and the Livable Streets Initiative joined Manhattan Community Boards 2 and 4 and NYU's Office of Government and Community Affairs on Tuesday evening to present, A Streetfilms Festival: Selected Shorts on Community-Building Streets.  Gracefully MC'ed by Shirley Secunda of Manhattan Community Board 2, the program placed emphasis on how individuals and communities can engage to make their streets more livable, and the positive changes which result.  NYC DOT Commissioner, Janette Sadik-Khan (at podium in photo left) provided inspirational opening remarks and gave three cheers for the work of the Livable Streets Initiative.

Following the films, a panel (pictued above, from left to right) comprised of Clarence Eckerson Jr from Streetfilms, Shin-pei Tsay of Transportation Alterntives, Mark Gorton of The Open Planning Project, and Christine Berthet of Chekpeds, fielded questions from the audience.  Topics of discussion ranged from street space allocation to education to law enforcement. Livable Streets Initiaitve's Calry Clark snapped these photos. If your community group is interested in hosting a Streetfilms screening, send an email to for more information.
